A night with potential
It's what I had not long ago
He had been a friend
A good friend, possibly my best
The next day I was content
Sit and wait, not worry, at calm
And then you called
A day later
The smile vanished
And a tear sprang forth
Because I became alive from your voice
That's all it took
One word, one tone, one voice
And the night of potential
Was wiped
Vanished
And instead I realized I was more alive
With the pain you bring
Than with the love he gave
It sucks, pure and through
And tonight I sit
Having called you, listening to your voice message
And I don't want to call you back
Scared and terrified
That this hope, alive and aching, may evaporate
Brought on by one word, one hello
And I'm scared
To lose this color brought to my heart
