Choosing between being clever or being good-looking

Hands down, I enjoy being clever. I was born clever and I will always be clever. It is all I have ever known. I don't even know how to behave 'good looking'. My appearance is pretty average; I am not worth a second glance by any means. Plus, I have never really wanted to be one of the good looking crowd. It seems like a lot of work. For me, my cynicism and wit comes naturally. If I was asked to be one of the pretty people, I would lose and miss myself. Being clever can get you farther than you might expect. Cleverness could get you a job that you have been looking for because you made a great impression. And it seems like being pretty qualifies you for the mundane, to me anyway. They want special treatment or they try to act flirty. It is so sickening. Some of them think they can rely only on their looks without gaining a personality. Or instead of having a thought themselves, they look to others to tell them how to feel. What bothers me most is the people who think they are a gift from God. I really don't understand some people's way of thinking. It has been proven on many counts that what is on the inside matters most in this world.

I have noticed how the ones who claim to have the best genes feel the need to be overly competitive. A lot of times they may even be considered shallow. After being thrown into a group of shallow teens, it's safe to say that I had an experience that I never want to relive. I don't know if it is because of television, but gossip is a big thing with them. It's like they feel like they always need assurance wherever they go. Clever people are more comfortable with themselves because they rely on their minds and only their minds. And another thing, what are good looks anyway? Basically, opinions. Usually from the person who has them, slowly influencing others that they might be something special.
Unless you plan to be a model, your looks are of no real use in the real world. Education beats everything. Some pretty people believe that their looks will get them through life. Well, cleverness doesn't get old, but good looks fade with time. I am so glad I am not good looking.
