Poetry: Always

by Dave Eisenberg

Created on: April 23, 2008

The smiling face of the sun was grinning love
As it threw itself off the Atlantic shore
To reside in my eyes, so I would look above
To see that it was my face he wore

"I am you and you are me
She is you and I am he."
As a quiet wind tapped the back of my neck
Each hair stood up so formerly

I ask "Did you hear that whispering call?
It spoke of something that I'm not sure.
It came from there, this sky so tall!
Or maybe something I just thought I'd heard."

She says "My dear, it seems you're hearing wind
Or crashing waves on harder things
I thought you knew so I didn't say
The world is but a song to sing."

I always knew that I would never know
Just what this sky above me wants
Like I always knew that I would never go
Before I ask of you, your thoughts.
