Karaoke Queen
The colorful array of lights seem to beat down on me with the beat of the song. It was karaoke night at the saloon, and I was up next. I held the micropohone in the sweaty palm of my hand. About thirty or so laughing faces were looking straight at me. The karaoke host came forward to welcome me.
"How is everyone tonight?" she asked.
The crowd applauded with such intensity, and I hoped I would get the same reaction after my performance. As the moment grew closer, my stomach churned more and more. I wondered if I would actually be able to pull this off.
"This is Heather, and she will be singing 'Fancy'." she announced.
I knew I wouldn't be as good as Reba McEntire, but I was determined to atleast try. At that time, I heard the song start to play. Nervous with stage fright, I managed to belt out the words remarkably. My love of music took over, and I started to relax a little. When I finally got the nerve to look out at the crowd, I noticed that they were really enjoying themselves. That's when I realized that karaoke was about having fun and enjoying the music, no matter what. When the song ended, the audience gave me a standing ovation. Now I don't know whether some of them were drunk or if I actually sounded good, but either way they liked my performance. This, my friends, was my first encounter with karaoke, and I absolutely loved it! Now, I am known locally as the 'karaoke queen'.
If you have never sang karaoke, you are definitely missing out. Karaoke is for easy going people who love music. The most important thing that I tell people when it comes to karaoke, is not to let your nerves get in the way of you having fun. It's all about fun, and the audience as well as the karaoke singers know this. It doesn't matter if you sing terrible or you think you are making a fool of yourself. If you love music and show that you're having fun with it, the crowd, in-turn will love you. If you are a socially oriented person who loves to have a good time, karaoke is for you.
My first time singing karaoke was the beginning of many more karaoke nights at the bar. Whether it's a bar, a wedding reception, a birthday party, or wherever you come across karaoke, go for it! Have some fun, and remember karaoke is for having fun with your family and friends. Who knows, you might turn into the next karaoke queen or king.
