Poetry: I hear you

by K.C. Jean Kellam

I hear you, I do
I hear the words you speak
But haven't you figured out
They mean nothing now to me

I hear you say you're sorry
I can also hear that tone
I hear you say so many things
That sound as cold as stone

I hear you, I'm listening
I'll always take the time
Why do you always yell at me
I can hear you just fine

I hear you say love me
You ask for me to stay
I hear you promise changes
But there's no softness in your ways

Maybe instead of yelling
You should've listened a little more
You didn't seem to hear a thing
Only the latch as I went out the door
