You Never Knew

You never knew I cared for you;
I never told you so-
Though I cherished you with all my heart,
I knew you'd never know.

I watched you from a distance;
I admired you from afar-
And after all these years
Sometimes I still wonder where you are.

You were in my thoughts in the morning;
You were in my dreams at night-
But I made sure you never knew
How important you were in my sight.

You never knew I cared for you;
I never told you so-
All the dreams of things that might-have-been
Now I will never know.
