HOW to order a cheesesteak in Philadelphia. Make sure you specify if you want your steak "wit" or "wit-out" onions and be ready to make the choice of cheez-whiz, provolone, or American.
WHITE DOG CAF
Head on over to the University district of the city and eat at the "green" friendly White Dog Caf. This restaurant has recently made the mission to "go green" so not only can you help save the environment; you can enjoy a cheap meal. My favorite dish at this restaurant is the Lancaster County Smoked Ham and Baby Swiss Melt.
DINERS
Make sure you grab a bite at some of the best diners in Philadelphia. Although neighboring state New Jersey, hails the most diners in the country, Philadelphia has some of the best ones. My favorites are the Mayfair Diner, Melrose Diner, and Philly Diner. Philly Diner has some of the cheapest prices for food in the area as it is located right near the college district. Hit the Mayfair Diner for some Dutch Meatballs or original Sauerkraut. This diner was a hot spot for the democratic presidential hopefuls. The Melrose Diner has some of the best homemade pies. It is located right near the Wachovia Center and Lincoln Financial field so you can go watch a sporting event and then hit the diner for a cheap meal.
PHILADELPHIA VENDORS
If you are out walking about the streets of historic Philadelphia, then you may want to grab a hot dog or sausage from one of the street vendors. They are nice and hot and too delicious to pass up. And best of all you can grab a dog and a soda for less than $5.
Keep in mind if you are out sightseeing or catching up with Philadelphia history, you will be able to grab a cheap bite to eat in any of these establishments. Good Luck and have fun!
