If you are visiting historic Philadelphia, you are going to want to not only sightsee, but eat like the locals as well. In this day and age of high gas prices and inflated airfare, tourists are looking for budget friendly locations with delicious food. Check out some of these great tasting places to grab a quick bite and not break the bank.
THE BOURSE BUILDING
The Bourse Building, located right in the heart of Independence Mall, is a historic site filled with tons of retail establishments and eating facilities. The building itself dates back to 1890 and was intended for a "place of exchange" where merchants could come together to buy and sell their commodities. Today the building has shops such as a gift shop with tons of Philly souvenirs and a popular newsstand. This building also houses tons of places to grab a bite to eat such as Sbarro Pizza and Philly's Gourmet Caf, among others. The food is cheap but is good and local. And since the Bourse Building is in the heart of the tourist district you can eat, buy gifts and sightsee all in one area.
READING TERMINAL MARKET
This is one of the oldest indoor city farmers market, dating back to 1893. You can grab anything here from seafood to Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. You can get a slice of the delicious Philadelphia Pizza or grab a huge Philly pretzel. Yes we Philadelphians will eat a pretzel for breakfast or lunch! The delicious aroma will hit you as you enter and you will leave with a nice full belly and money to still splurge in the gift shops.
GALLERY FOOD COURT
The Gallery Shopping Center, located at 9th and Market Streets is filled with Shopping and luxury Department stores. It also houses many cheap, but quality food establishments for you to grab a meal and still shop. You will find places such as Bourbon Street Caf, Pretzel Gourmet, Adam's Caf, and Meldy's Prime Meats. Since the Gallery is located in the heart of Center City, you can stop in and grab a bite while you are out enjoying your day. The Gallery even houses public transportation IN the mall, so you can still catch the train or subway without even going outside.
PAT'S and GENO's CHEESESTEAKS
You cannot come to Philadelphia and leave without eating a cheesesteak. Both establishments are located directly across the street from each other in South Philadelphia. Both claim to be the original king of steaks and for years they have competed for business in Philadelphia. In my opinion, they both are delicious. But I am giving you fair warning; you need to know
