A recent study shows that 1% of females show signs of puberty, such as breast development or pubic hair, before the age of three. By the age of eight, almost 15% of Caucasian females and almost 50% of African-American females have one or both of these characteristics. There is no argument against the fact that early development in females and late development in males can lead to social and psychological problems in children. Parents of children who were fed soy infant formula report many problems with their children, including extreme emotional behavior, asthma, immune system problems, pituitary insufficiency, thyroid disorders and irritable bowel syndrome.
While most adult Americans do not consume nearly enough soy for a great deal of these effects to occur, there are still many, many Americans (specifically vegetarians and infants) who consume enough or far more than enough. Soy has become an epidemic of epic proportions; one that has been created and promoted by the soy industry. They promote its few positive effects, and hide all of its negative effects from the eyes of the consumer. It is time for this to stop. Soy should be used the way it always was, long before the days of Silk Soymilk and Big Franks. For flavoring and condiments in fermented form. Until Soy receives GRAS (generally regarded as safe) status for consumables (which it never will) it should be reserved for its uses in fermented products and as a binding agent in cardboard boxes. Soy: Miracle? Or monstrosity? You decide.
