Philadelphia has four distinct seasons. It is reasonably temperate with cold but not frigid winters and warm and humid but not sweltering summers. Every season is beautiful in it's own way and depending on what you plan to do in Philadelphia each will have its attractions.
Spring: The weather is mild and sunny and you can expect about 4 days of rain every month. Plan your spring visit around the the Philadelphia Cherry Blossom Festival and the Philadelphia Antiques Show. Both of these events are scheduled yearly in April and attract large crowds to the city. You know it's spring when you see the duck tours running again, they stop from December to February. May brings the Dad Vail Regatta to the Schuylkill River and Memorial Day weekend you should head to Penn's Landing for Jam on the River.
Summer: it will be warm and it can be muggy. The average temperature in July is 78 degrees. During the summer you see the Once upon America benches located around the city. Costumed storytellers will share their stories at these locations. In the summer, the Philadelphia Orchestra performs at the outdoor Mann Center for the Performing Arts. It a great way to enjoy great music under the stars.
Fall: brings cooler nights and moderate days. The leaves turn to shades of red, yellow and orange. October brings the annual Harvest Festival to Reading Terminal Market, offering hayrides, a giant pumpkin patch and face painting for the younger set.
Laurel Hill Cemetery presents Halloween Flashlight Tours, Featuring the "Not Ready for the Afterlife Players" in October. What a great way to celebrate the passage into both fall and the afterlife. If that isn't spooky enough for you, consider going into lock down at Eastern State Penitentiary one of the most haunted sites in the world. This is the perfect fall event.
Winter: can be cold with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. Expect an average of 21 inches of snow. Enjoy skating at the Class of 1923 skating rink and take a ride to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square to enjoy the 420,000 lights. Visit the former Wannamaker Department Store building which now houses Lord and Taylor Department Store to see the display that they create in the atrium every year.
