Karaoke is a great entertainment forum for those that wish to shine in the stardust and maybe even show off a little and for others maybe just a chance to just sing and have a good time but to some there is a mania going on. Let me tell you this. you will find all kinds out there who involve themselves in the bizarre world of kareoke. There's a lot of great singers, good singers, wanna be singers, ego driven singers right on down to the really terrible singers. I personally get a real kick out of them all.
I used to run karaoke shows 20 years ago in the bars when it all became the rage and I've seen it grow and become common place for many types of people and when I say many types, I mean many types. Some of the wanna be singers that are completely tone deaf or those that burn the ears off the side of your head are a bit irritating but I have to admit that most all are still entertaining even if they can't sing. It really astonishes me that some think they are fabulous and they truly believe themselves to be star material when in fact they can't hold a note at all. There are those who always think there might be an agent sitting in the audience looking for undiscovered talent. Slim chance but it does happen.
There are many who have never sung a note in their lives but after a few drinks and some prodding from their peers they finally get up and give it a try. I say "bravo" to them. It takes a lot of confidence to croon away with everybody watching and judging you. There are some that know they can't sing at all but still have the courage to get up there and just have some fun. Again, Bravo!
Often the establishments have contests for the best and worst singers which can in fact make it a fun time or theory has it. There are some that take the contests too seriously and complain about the judging or the judges themselves or that the results were tampered with or unfair. Some will complain about not hearing the monitors or the sound quality is bad or the host is not doing the mixing properly or it's too loud or not loud enough. There are some that are just plain rude and make fun of others that at least have the nerve to get up there and participate and enjoy themselves. Some think they are professionals and come complete with an attitude like bringing their own private cd collection or wishing to only perform at the end of the night for their ego and imagined stardom. Save the best for last, so to speak. There are some who make up their own words because they either can't read the monitors or they just don't know the songs. Some are just lonely groupie types who try to hang out with the hosts or singers just to look important for the evening. Then of coarse there are those who don't participate in anything at all and just sit in the audience, drink and complain. Ah!....Duh!.....Like why are they there in the first place? Sometimes it just seems that you can't please everybody 100% all of the time.
On a happy note, I do have fun and from time to time there are those select few that really impress the heck out of me with their vocals and stage presence. For what it's worth, what ever the reason you may find to get out there and sing your heart out or just listen at these kareoke bars the main thing I say is "just have fun". That's what it was intended for.
