Poetry: I hear you

by Avery Lynn

Created on: April 22, 2008

Don't look at me that way!
What did I say?
Impudent child!
I hear you,
You're angry.

Why can't you be like your cousins?
Don't you talk back to me!
Unruly child!
I hear you,
You're embarrassed.

Clean up this mess!
You're no good for me now!
Why did I have you?
I hear you,
You're regretful.

Don't talk at the table!
Put your hands in your lap!
Children are seen and not heard.
I hear you,
You're envious.

Where are you going?
Don't be home late!
You have lousy friends.
I hear you,
You're worried.

You're lazy! Get a job!
Don't smoke! Don't drink!
It's Sunday, go to church!
I hear you,
You're remembering someone else.

You never call!
Are you coming to visit?
I don't care what you do!
I hear you,
You're old and lonely.

Nothing...
No sounds...
You've passed...
I hear you,
You're finally happy.
