It was a week before Thanksgiving when Mrs. Morales' sixth grade students were having their annual "Holidays around the World" program. The rehearsals were set for 3 o'clock each evening during the school week. That's when everyone was free to come and lend a helping hand to make this a successful program. This was the dress rehearsal and this was no time for horsing around. Everything and everybody had to be right on q.
There were four grown-ups helping with the rehearsals. Mrs. Morales, the teacher, Mr. Clark, the principal of the school, Mrs. Seagull, the librarian, and Mr. Block, the parent helper.
When all of the students lined up on the stage to say their parts, everyone was there. Well accept one.
"Where is Thanksgiving? Has anyone seen her?" asked Trenton.
"Everyone else is here, Trenton," answered Shemika.
"Alright, everybody we need to find Thanksgiving pronto so that we can complete this program," said Trenton.
"Let's all spread out and search the school for clues. Don't try to be a hero. If you find something bring it back to the cafetorium so we can put all the clues together."
All of the students scattered out in their costumes among the corridors looking for clues that would help them find poor Thanksgiving.
One group searched the main corridor leading from the front entrance to the exit door. The student leading this group was dressed as a pumpkin. Of course, he was Halloween. He stumbled around trying to see out of his pumpkin head. He ran into the group a couple of times and each time they turned him around in the right direction. Shucks, nobody else wanted to be the leader.
As they crept slowly down the corridor in a close little bunch, they found what looked like a turkey feather that was stuck to the front of the trophy case.
"This is a good clue!" said Halloween.
He pulled the feather off of the trophy case and held it high so they all could see it.
"I think she went this way, he said as he pointed down the corridor. We are on the right track. Let's move out gang!"
Each group had a lookout person to watch for intruders coming up from the back. The lookout person for this group was dressed as Miss Fourth of July.
The students
