Hopefully technology will spare the earth. The alternative is unthinkable. A way must be found to wean ourselves from using so much fossil fuel. We must find a way to cease our pollution of the atmosphere , the ground and the air. Plus the fact that the powers that control the majority of the oil in the world are not exactly our best buddies. Ethanol obviously is not the holy grail that will solve our problems,as evidenced by the food shortages already being felt globally.

Humans have always found a way to get to the next level. There must be enough brain power on this planet to fix the dilemma we are getting ourselves into. If we can sent a rocket to one of the distant planets using an orbit of the sun as a sling shot effect, and arrive there at a precise time to orbit a moving object many millions of miles away, then surely we can devise a renewable energy source that is virtually pollution free.

Perhaps if this government [ and others] would put a higher priority on on what matters most to their people rather than the governments this could be done. A solution is attainable. If we do not expend all our efforts to rid ourselves of such a dependence on fossil fuels, the coming years will only get worse. Hungry people become angry people, and desperate people.

Perhaps it is time we started looking more to do do what is right and leas for what is profitable. The technology is already available to meet many of these goals. The rest are certainly attainable. In the early sixties President Kennedy set a goal to put a man on the moon before the end of the decade. It didn't at that time seem possible to many, We did it. If the powers that be use our considerable brain power, and supply the funds technology can certainly turn things around. As I said earlier the alternative is unthinkable. The discovery channel had a program about what this planet would be like in the weeks, months and years after man disappears. Watch it, it could be closer than we think. There are alternatives such as solar, Geo-thermal, wind, wave and battery. Every auto and truck uses a battery for starting and for accessories. Most also use some form of fuel. The battery is essential, the fuel can conceivably be dispensed with. The battery produces no pollution. The technology is already there to run an auto on batteries alone. It is my firm belief we have people smart enough to develop batteries that are rechargeable from household current and able to travel hundreds of miles between recharging that are affordable. This would not only drastically cut down on pollution, but also vastly decrease our dependence on foriegn oil from countries that would just as soon we didn't even exist.
