It's widely known that running is beneficial for mental and physical health, but it is really so much more. Consistent running can become a real cornerstone for so many other things in your life, including proper sleep, healthy diet, positive moods, goal realization, self-discipline and a grounded perspective, to name just a few. It's hard to think of manyt things that can offer this much bang for the buck.
By making it a priority to run several times a week and by frequently setting and meeting new running goals, any person can reap the benefits of running. One such benefit often occurs when a runner goes on a long jog and gets into a zone, allowing him or her to almost subconsciously sort through current concerns or problems. And, to add to that, as most runners can attest, there is a high that can be achieved on more vigorous runs. This runner's high is great for anyone, and it provides a great alternative to getting a buzz through other ways such as drinking. And, it's certainly much cheaper.
Another benefit of running is its social aspect. This past time can provide a way to make new friends through social clubs. It also allows you to see areas of our towns or neighboring areas that you may not typically explore. Hitting the pavement on a Saturday morning when you have time for a long run is a great way to sight see and to enjoy changes of season.
Running is also cool in that you can do other things at the same time. For example, you can listen to music or chat with friends. In a time-starved world, it's always great to find ways to multi-task without sacrificing the quality of the tasks at hand.
In case you need one more thing to persuade you to get your Pumas out of the closet and grab your iPod to go out for a jog, running is also a very affordable and flexible sport. The cost of it is minor compared to most sports. There are many options as to where or when to go for a run. And you also have flexibility in that you do not have to rely on others, such as team members, to run.
All in all, it's easy to be a huge fan of running. The positives truly outweigh any cons, and when done in moderation, most potential injuries can be easily avoided.
Over time, running really does become a lifestyle. And, it is this lifestyle choice that often makes everything else go more smoothly. Unlike many other trends that come and go, running has always been, and will continue to be, cool.
Ask any runner who has suffered an injury, such as a broken toe, how much they missed running. You will more than likely find that they could not wait to be able to run again, and faced a real struggle emotionally when unable to do so. Running is a great gift from God, and it is one that runners should never take for granted. Its rewards are bountiful.
Happy running!
