places most Americans cannot find on a map. Across the nation gasoline is nearing $4.00 for regular. The housing market is in the dumper. The price of food and medicines continues to swell. The dollar is tanking. Unfortunately this is not a case of bad news first, good news last. There is no good news from this administration. A president who left office with a surplus budget and gasoline at an affordable amount is in a position to offer a valued appraisal.

It is a belief championed by many that if an American shows disapproval of the president other countries will think less of us. They should consider his continued bad decisions and arrogant disregard for other countries as compelling reasons for their dislike and disrespect of Americans. They think we elected him, twice. Two elections that were in truth a selection, an appointment, and beyond the control of the American people, but we are held accountable.

We should not be angry with the person offering a valid critique, especially an ex-president. To say that speaking negatively of the president is unpatriotic smacks of worlds I've read about in fiction and non-fiction alike; worlds where those who speak against authority disappear in the night and neighbors spy on neighbors. It all sounds very un-American. How could someone be call unpatriotic for offering a valid criticism with only the best for America in mind? This is a case of shooting the messenger. If the critique is valid it should be attended to.

It is often argued that as a demonstration of patriotism we should blindly follow our leader no matter the path. We should walk in lock step and smile. An occasional boo-yah' might be in order as we pretend everything is okay for the sake of impressions. Let no one openly disapprove of the president lest we be called unpatriotic, incur the disrespect of the world, or be called ignorant as we follow our leader like toadies; a nation on a sheer slide down a slippery slope.

Every American has the right to speak out either for or against the current president. It is part of being American.
