Who's up for shooting some zombies?
I just got finished playing the 60 trial of Zombie Shooter, for the PC. Being a fanatic of everything zombie related, I decided to try this game out, and was surprised with what I experienced.
Zombie Shooter is one of those games, that takes you back to the days of Contra on the Nintendo Entertainment System. While the graphics of the game are pretty good for a top down style shooter such as this, the controls were very simplistic.
Furthermore, in Zombie Shooter you use your mouse to aim at various creatures that are out to eat you. Every single one of the creatures has their own unique speed, for instance a dog will run to you faster then a human zombie.
During "Campaign Mode," you will find yourself navigating through various levels filled with different types of zombies, and animals. Each level is filled with crates that you can shoot to gain items, health, and money to buy weapons and ammo after each level.
Some will find it surprising, the game features some characteristics normally only seen in role playing games. When you reach the end of a level and are able to shop for new weapons and ammo, you can use experience points gained by killing the undead to "level-up" certain attributes.
Of course, as you add to each of these attributes your character will become stronger and will be able to survive longer. I thought that feature was pretty interesting, and a very innovative idea.
During another mode called "Survive," you will find yourself in an open area with undead creatures coming from every direction. Your only chance of survival is to kill the creatures to gain power-ups like armor and such, or use barrels found around the area to blast the undead into oblivion.
In the last game mode, called "Gun Stand," you control a turret surrounded by barricades. Take a good guess at what your objective is, that's right, to protect your stronghold against endless waves of zombies.
Fear not though, you are given a special attack of sorts to kill off all zombies in the area every now and then. Keep in mind that in every mode but Gun Stand, you can choose between a female character and a male.
Putting the game play to rest, Zombie Shooter also has some very good music. My personal favorite was the song playing in the main menu, however, the music during the actual game seems fairly decent.
Final Score: 5/5
I have to tip my hat to the developers of the game, it managed to interest me quite a bit. I would imagine this game has a fairly decent replay value as well, especially because of the Survive mode.
For those of you that do not like the sight of blood in video games, you can have the color of it from the options menu. Also, if you have a questionable PC, you can turn down the graphics on this game from the options menu as well.
That being said, I have a high score of 419,347 on Gun Stand mode, think you can top that?
