Poetry: Inside my wallet

by Toni Thompson

Created on: April 21, 2008

Edges all tattered and old,
What treasures does it guard and hold,
My faithful billfold.

What treasures does it guard and hold?
Photo of my car-it was towed.
Pictures of my family by the boatload.

My faithful billfold
Subtle, never brash, never bold.
My faithful friend, so dear and old.

What treasures does it guard and hold?
Storing more memories of gold
Than greenbacks or coins of gold.

My faithful billfold,
Protecting credit cards of plastic gold,
ATM cards retrieved and then restored.

What treasures does it guard and hold?
Content to be pocketed and stowed,
Confidant of my adventures to remain untold.

My faithful billfold,
Sometimes hides from me in places new and old,
I join the hide-and-seek games til patience no longer holds.

Faithful always to my tattered bi-fold,
Never trading for a shiny new tri-fold,
I stick my money, memories and trust in my billfold.
