Poetry: Love unrequited

Broken promises (Double Etheree)

On
the tip
of a kiss,
you promised me
we'd always be one ~
for better or for worse,
in sickness, even in health.
We stood before our friends that day,
pledging our true love for each other
exchanging vows deemed to be rock solid.
Oh, but those promises were empty ones.
In time our closeness began to fade ~
our love did not hold up under
the stress and strain of living,
working, raising children.
Priorities lost,
fell out of love ~
on the tip
of a
kiss.
