ONE TAKE WONDER (Awesome; please see our changes to the ratings descriptions)
Original, fun, exhilaratingLeatherheads is a fun film!
It's the roaring 20's and football has been born, but not yet learned to walk. For the moment it is a sport played by big bulking guys who face a meaningless existence without the game. When teams begin to fold left and right due to poor attendance and a lack of funding, Jimmy "Dodge" Connelly (George Clooney) steps in to boost the game to another level. Little does Dodge know, that when he does so, the game he loved so much will change forever.
Clooney is able to create a film that is not just fun, but has the ability to create a fondness for all the characters present. Leatherheads will give you more information about the birth of football then you possibly ever wanted.
THE GOOD
George Clooney, George Clooney, George Clooney! Living up to his motto "One for them and one for me," he comes off the award winning Michael Clayton and seemingly is lucky enough to have gotten two for him. Not only is his performance as "Dodge" wonderful, but his direction is fantastic as well. He is truly one of those few directors that pay close attention to the small elements of production that can make great or ruin a film. He is able to get fantastic performances from his cast, in this case Renee Zellweger as Lexi Littleton and John Krasinski as Carter Rutherford, and able to give life to the screenplay written by Duncan Brantley and Rick Reilly.
Speaking of a great screenplay, many do not believe this, but I for one do "you can't have a great film, great acting and great directing if you do not start off with the basics, a great script," Joe Ezterhas, well we Clooney definitely chose the right property here.
The cinematography and costuming round out the wonderful production circle giving Clooney his second great film in a row.
THE BAD & THE UGLY
Nothing to report here everyone! The Entertaining Brain thoroughly enjoyed this work from Clooney.
Can Clooney actually make a bad film? Sure he can, but he hasn't done one in some time. If you're looking for a film to have a good time with, head out and see Leatherheads, there is something here for everyone. Guy's, just make sure you tell your date, it's not just about football, it's about so much more!
