Of Course They Should.
However, Should they have the right to do whatever they like with absolute impunity? In my opinion the answer to this is no, Should they be allowed to daz up subjects that should be treated in a more serious or delicate manner, Again in my humble opinion the answer is a no again
It's not what they say it's the way that they say it, It's not what they do it's the way that they do it, When some nobody terrorist goes out to carry out a 911, London Tube or any other bombing, they do so with the knowledge that by the time the media have finished they will be some kind of hero, They know their names will be splashed across every TV channel and front page on the planet, Even worse so will the criminal murdering organizations they are members of, The media use the very words these same organizations want them to use, like "Freedom Fighters" for example, these people are not freedom fighters, they are just indiscriminate murderers of innocent people.
I don't know what others think but I would sooner see footage of the REAL "Freedom Fighters" and by this I mean the Fire, Police, Ambulance and all other emergency services, Here we will find the real hero's and it is here we will see acts of true bravery, Sure we need to know about the event itself, sure we need to know what has happened, but lets play the people who are responsible down, lets leave the scum-bag murdering cowards right on the back burner where they belong.
Its like the coverage of Iraq and Afghanistan, Do we really need every scenario played out on screen with plastic animated tanks, aircraft and ships? Its so bizarre to me, It seems to dehumanize the whole affair and make it seem far away and unreal, unfortunately it is real, They are not computer animations they are real people out there risking life and limb, All this trivia was never pandered to in the past so why do we need it now, why can't they just stick to the facts? I have even watched in disbelief on occasions as the news correspondent asks an army or navy commander stuff like, How many troops are you sending in?, Where are they at the moment? What is your next move? (yes I do realize that some of this stuff is propaganda), But I still reckon that the Taliban or whoever will be watching all this footage in microscopic detail,And some of them will know the desert like the backs of their camels.
All I am trying to say is that a good journalist can put over the facts exactly as they are without having to resort to all the stuff I have mentioned above.
Just a final thought: Have you seen the final bath scene in "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy", a lot of these new media types remind me of that, "What are we gonna do without hairdressers, how will we survive"?
