Poetry: Uncontrollable feelings

by Kelsey Anderson

Created on: April 21, 2008

Sometimes you just can't help it
The things you shouldn't do
The things that often feel so right
But are so wrong, it's crushing you

Soaking up this feeling
Swimming in exhilaration
Crawling out soaking wet and freezing cold
Finding fear in that sensation

Sneaking back for one last peek
Every chance you get
Crawling back on shaky knees
Trying to smother the regret

One more song, one last dance
This is it for me
Sometimes I just can't help it
It's getting hard to breathe

The nightmares are coming back
Just when my heart starts beating
Fear finds me in my restless sleep
Reminds me bliss is fleeting

In so short a time an experience
That outweighs all the rest
Instilled in me just enough strength
To do what seemed the best

Every now and then I'll think
When I can't help myself
Maybe just this one last time
I'll open that dusty book on the shelf

But closing it's a problem
Too good to put away
I want to see what's at the end
Maybe tomorrow, not today

I'll wait until the nightmares
Finally start to fade
Until I just can't help it...
Maybe tomorrow
But not today
