I have been a member of Helium for over two years now, When I first joined I had only ever wrote lyrics to my songs, writing anything else had never even occurred to me. You may ask whats the difference? Let me tell you there is a big difference and it it's this, When you write a new song you do not have to go to your band and show them the words. To convince them to want to play your new masterpiece what you do have to do is this, SING it and play it to them, In other words its all about performance and delivery, Most musicians are not even interested what the song is about, Only how well you perform it, Therefore: grammar, spelling and punctuation do not even come into it as the only person who ever needs to be able to read the words is YOU.
School in my day was like this, If you came from a working class background as I did you were earmarked for a factory or some other mundane occupation, It was only the posh people who went to University,The teachers at my school had no interest in teaching you anything, You were dead in the water as soon as you came through the door.As a result anything I have learned throughout the years I have taught myself, Or Picked it up from my friends, (and Helium) I hated my school and I hated my teachers with a vengeance, They were bullies and perverts who taught me nothing, As a result I hardly ever went to school in the end, They did not miss me and I did not miss them.
Considering all I have said in the above paragraphs, You will understand that when I first joined Helium for me writing a proper article was a daunting task.I could not hide my grammar, punctuation or spelling behind my music, and believe me there were no shortage of clever dicks on here to point it out, It used to hack me of at first and I would get really upset. They reminded me of my old teachers a bit,(In fact profile views showed that most of them were) At one point I was going to cancel my membership but thought I would fight back instead, I decided I would just post in the cafe and would post only stuff that would wind these self imposed grammar police up even more."Billy Shakespeare" (A study of his works), "The No Grammar Room", "Phil's Magic Elevator" (This particular thread served no other purpose than to aimlessly travel up and down the boards), What amazed me about these banal posts is not only did they serve my original purpose they also became popular in the cafe and people seemed to like them.
It was because of these threads that I made many friends
