I've heard that people take them
Permission not required
They do so when their body
Starts to tell them that it's tired
Late afternoons, on weekends
There's not a special time
Whenever nature calls to them
They figure it's just fine
Although I've tried myself to steal
That precious time away
It's then I realize
that "Murphy's Law" gets in my way
As soon as I decide my body's
ready for the "break"
I foolishly lay down well knowing
What I knows at stake
The phone that sat in silence
never ringing once all day
decides to fill the house with sound
I'd wish would go away
The doorbell rings by visitors
That had to just stop by
The dogs need to go potty
And a car horn beep nearby
So I pretend I took a rest
When everybody asks
And then I'm off completing
All those very tiresome tasks
Laundry, cooking cleaning,
and scrubbing windows too
All the while I watch when they begin
What I can't do
Oh why is it that everyone
can get the time they need
When Murphy's Law surrounds my life
And swallows me with greed
Preventing me that precious time
To lay down just a bit
And relish in the wonder of
What other people get
Until then I'll just bide my time
Or start a craft perhaps
My life, I guess, much better spent
Not wasting it on naps

Naps
What is a nap?
It's just a repose
A rest, a break,
A quick little doze.
A snappy refresher
A healthy picker upper
A relaxing

Forever
Stolen moments of sleep
Focus, focus
Eyes closed
Briefly
At my desk
Head nodding
In a meeting

I've got a lot to do today
I've got to mow the lawn
Just the very thought of work
Gives cause to make me to yawn
The garden
