Memories
Memory: Sorry!
My cousins and I liked to play games when we were together. We usually all gathered at my grandmother's house in the city. I can recall one particular day when we found ourselves in the basement. I don't remember whose idea it was to go into the basement but that's where we all ended up. There were many cool things down there so we explored every nook and cranny. I especially liked my grandma's old fashioned washer and dryer. It had a mechanism on it that allowed you to ring the water out of the clothing after they were washed. You'd put the item between these two wheel presses at one end, turn the crank and force the item through to the other end. It was really cool. There were many other things down there, tons of gadgets, the boys were interested in the gadgets, I didn't pay those things any attention. While snooping around, we came upon my Uncle's room (I didn't realize he lived there up until this point). It was in the back of the basement. There were no doors; however, there were shear white curtains and beads hanging in the doorway. He had a TV and a stereo, an icebox and a giant speaker box that was almost as tall as I was. He also had a huge bed and a shelf above the bed full of games. He invited us into his room and asked if we'd like to play a game. We said yes, of course and he took down the board game "Sorry!" We all sat on the bed and began to play. We played this game for hours. The cousins one by one began to fall asleep. I was winning so I wasn't tired at all! Eventually, it was just me and him. He told me to take a nap before dinner. I said I wasn't sleepy and wanted to finish the game. He promised we'd finish when I woke up so I lied down and closed my eyes. I couldn't sleep because I wasn't tired. I just lied still. A few minutes went by, I'm sure it must have been about 20 minutes or so, but it felt like only a few minutes after I shut my eyes. The bed started shaking. I opened my eyes and saw my uncle moving one of my cousins around. I figured he was just making room. He then moved another and then another. I opened my eyes just enough to see, he was positioning them across the long end of the bed. He came for me, my heart was beating out of my chest and I shut my eyes tight and rolled into the corner, between the wall and the edge of the bed. He couldn't reach me without climbing all the way into the bed and disturbing the other kids. He tried calling my name to wake me, but I pretended to be asleep. There was silence
