Poetry: Mannequins

by W.D. Nelson

Created on: April 21, 2008

When I look into the air, I always see the sky.
Life is spent, no compliment, neither for you nor I
My eyes gaze deep into your heart, I see it's cold and black.
But forget the acts, erase the facts, now hope's our new contract.

My sight grows weary, is it right to see nothing but dirt?
Pretend we care of life's affairs but we won't really hurt.
Now quietly, I'll close these eyes, pretending I can't see.
People pray and cry, afraid to die, except for you and me.

Experience is lost if pain's the cost, even the Pope must die
In truth, if I ask naught of pain, then pain should not reply.
Suicide is safe, the final escape from eternities with their mate.
How thin, this line of life I tread, will falling be my fate?

Now all are dead, all life has bred will tumble in decay
unthinking minds and empty hearts can follow just one way
You and I, alone we stand, but no one will complain
In birth, we became slaves of fate, and slaves we will remain.
