In a small corner of Indian School Rd and 36th street in Phoenix exists a little coffee shop, The air pungent with the sound, and the smell of coffee from all over the world. "Chill" is the first word that comes to mind to describe it's atmosphere. With comfortable couches, the book lined shelves whisper, "welcome to your coffee shop, sit down stay a while". Mama Java's is this secret place, and the coffee is the sweat nectar that brings the kids back home. Just like my grandma's Angel Food cake.
As a single young male I am often scrounging around for new experiences during the week days. I want to get out of the house rather than watch the reruns. I would like to believe I am not the only one shorthanded during the week. In Phoenix fun often mean staying out of the heat. So now you have a few option the mall right? Movie theater? Swimming? The experience of those have ran dry for me. So that leaves me looking for the unique, and Mama Java's fit's that for me.
I am also a bedroom guitar player, I know so many musicians that never share their music. I am that quiet musician that always says he will do an open mic night someday. I think I have been looking for the right place to do so. Mama Java's offers 2 or more opportunities a week to do just that. So the guitar and me are reacquainting, to finally do this rock star thing. Well at least I will be playing some kind of music. If your not into playing music don't worry that means only one thing.
That this place is a gold mine of young talented artist, and musicians. On any given day after 7pm there is live music filling the air. This music is fresh, it's not cover city, but good lyrics, which often come from young teenagers. If music just isn't your thing, first off how sad. Second there is still a couch calling your name, and some nice people always willing to talk. So get out experience culture, experience the power of music, and coffee bringing people together.
If this doesn't satisfy this same corner house's studio 360 which offers drop in style spinning classes everyday of the week. The people I see coming out of their look like they had an experience, and a workout. Nothing better right? There is a restaurant and bar across the street. A wine bar located in the rear of the building for a sophisticated night out, and an antique shop right next door to Mama Java's just in case you want to tickle your nose with a different dusty smell.
