Poetry: Fear

by Christine Bruness

Created on: April 21, 2008

"FEARS"

Entire armies
Of fears and phobias
Can exist in people's minds
Rendering them cowards
Who avoid life
And abort their own growth
With fright
That consumes
An obscene amount of time.

Whole lives
Are too often spent
Devoted
To avoiding a confrontation
With truth that is waiting
To be embraced.

Instead, their energies
Are dedicated
To fearing life, death
Love, rejection
Contact, alienation
Choice, consequence
Conviction, reflection
Consistency, change
Honor, humiliation
Fearing, fearing, fearing
FREEDOM!
