REALITY CHECK
Shoulda been idyllic
Such a beautiful, sunny day;
Coulda been bucolic
ocean breezes come our way.
My biggest rides the horse
While my next seeks butterflies;
My toddler picks the flowers while
Baby gazes into my eyes.
Sitting in the pasture
Under a branch of oak;
The day could not be better
I'm with my favorite folk!
Then the news comes, shattering;
The perfect feeling goes.
My toddler runs to tell me
He's stuck a flower up his nose!
I stifle my guffaw;
I feign a stern facade.
I tilt his head to look inside
His expression's kind of odd.
I doctor him as best I can;
I worry I won't succeed.
Whatever was I thinking
When I decided I should breed?
I feel the broken mood;
I really don't need drama.
Then he looks at me and says
"I really love you, Mama."
