How to get a better-than-average raise

You can get the better-than-average raise when you sell yourself daily on your job. You are always selling yourself when you work closely with other people, help a customer find the best product, or take a difficult assignment and turn it into a knock your socks off performance. In your career you need good job skills, especially performance skills, to get the opportunities, promotions and raises to keep you moving up at your organization. You are also in business for yourself, you are selling your skills, talents, and abilities for $l,000 a week, and when you get the promotions and raises, you can earn a lifetime income of over $5 Million. Let me offer you some tips to help you get the raise you deserve. l. Make certain that you start work on time, and never leave work at the normal 5:00 p.m. like the other employees. You have too much to do, to be able to leave at that time-focus on the work at hand, and do it better than your associates. 2. You must manage three things to get that raise: yourself, time and your energy. You manage yourself by setting priorities for your work, do the high payoff priorities first, work on each one until finished. Time management is essential to your raise, do you put first things first? Time is more important than money, you can always get more money, but your time is a limited resource. Energy management requires that you pace your workload, and get the important work done for your boss, associate, or customer. 3. Be a team player to get that raise. Do you offer to help Sue, the supervisor in your department, to get the accounting data to complete the end of the month statements, for the main office? Let Sue, or any associate, know you are available to assist them in jobs which are needed by your department or company. Keep working well with others. 4. Getting that raise is selling the victories you make in your job daily, to make your company better. Keep a list of daily things you do to make your time and effort count. When did you save money or increase sales for your company? Keep this list ready when your sit down with your boss for your annual performance evaluation. Be willing to sell yourself and your skills to your boss, at the right time in this evaluation. Selling yourself will help your in all areas of your job. 5. When you get that better-than-average raise, thank your boss, and all the other people within your company or department which helped you obtain it.
