Dogs can bark and run burglars away from people's home. There is a dog across the street from where I live and it is aways barking at people that get near that yard. Dogs will make noise before the burglars ever get into the yard giving there owners needed reaction time to protect themselves or to call the police. Dogs guard many homes and make for good pets too. Dog can be a companion as well as a protector of a home. Dogs have a keen sense of smell and can sense danger whenever it is present. Dogs can be just as cheap as an alarm system to maintain. Dog can warn everyone on the surrounding houses by barking so that other people will be aware of what is going on outside too. Burglars may avoid houses with dogs, because they make noise and alert other people. Burglars usually do not want any witnesses to their crime so they will usually not go to houses that have dogs outside that alert other people.

Some burglars may not want to fight dogs to gets inside of houses, so they might leave houses with dogs alone. If say a burglar does get on someones property or house the owner can call for help and the dog can protect them from burglars. Dogs are loyal and they will protect their owners from burglars. Before there were alarm systems there were dogs protecting people. Dogs can be more visible than alarm systems and harder to shut down than alarm systems. Electricity is needed to keep alarm systems going so if there is a power outage burglars could use that time to break into a house without a dog present keeping watch over the house. During storms many burglars break into homes because the power is out and there are no alarm systems working. Dogs can still see burglars even with the electric system or alarm system not working.

Alarm systems can be difficult to operate, but dogs operate by themselves. Programs on alarm systems can tear up and not work whenever a burglar does break in and people inside the houses to get hurt by burglars. Dogs will protect people no matter what and defend the home of its owner. No house should without protection of a dog even if they do have an alarm system in place, because even alarm systems need a back up such as a dog. Dogs are still the best means for absolute burglar protection even with the modern advancements such as alarm systems.
