I will never be pretty again
Not like I was back when
I made sport of the boys
Played with hearts like some toys
And gave heart attacks to the men.
But I'll never be pretty again.
I suppose there are compensations
That I can make do with, instead
The stuff of life's celebrations
Graduation, and then being wed...
Creative I've been, through my lifetime
I've painted and written and sown...
The birth of each child during my wifetime
And THEIR children, when they were grown...
No, I'll never be pretty again
Nor as foolish as I was back then
I'll take wisdom for now
An occasional bow
And re-live it all through my pen
Though I'll never be pretty again.

He's always been there hiding
whenever I took time to see.
He always seemed to grow
