Are you waking up every morning to a pillow covered in your own hair? Are you spending more time each day trying to style your hair in a way that it covers or masks your bald spot? If so, does this scare you? Chances are, the answer is yes. But you should not be afraid of such event.
Many men fear balding because they think they think it will deter them from finding someone to spend the rest of their life with, or if they have found that person, that person may become less attracted to him. Men also fear that balding might hurt them in their careers, or that their friends and others will make jokes and laugh at them. Some men fear that they don't have the right shaped head to look good bald. Once again, men should not fear these things.
Why should men not fear balding and the things above? First, let's go to why they do fear balding and the specific items mentioned above. For decades balding was an accepted side affect of getting older, but then something changed. This change was the popularity of modern media. As movies and television became more popular, the images they portrayed on the big and small screen began to shape the way people thought about many things, one of them being hair loss.
Movies and television portrayed a sexy man as having a thick head of hair. They would often show a woman running her hand through the man's hair during a romantic scene. As these types of images were shown over and over society began to take on the opinion of the studios that the ideal man was one with a full head of hair. I don't think the media set out to do this on purpose. It was just a by-product of the image that they thought everyone would want to see.
One of the other reasons men fear balding is all the hair restoration commercials and ads that are shown these days. All these ads portray a man as being lonely, unsuccessful, and desperate as a bald man. But the second he gets his hair restoration he gets that date he was looking for, has a huge smile on his face, and is driving that dream car. These ads want to strike fear in a man so he goes out and gives the advertiser thousands of dollars.
So, why should men not fear balding? One of the answers is that media is now casting several different bald men in roles that portray the man as sexy or masculine. There are also several actors, athletes, and other celebrities such as Bruce Willis, Michael Jordan, Joey Lawrence, and Taye Diggs that are considered sex symbols. With this shift in media, society has already started
