People can say all kinds of terminology for diagnosising learning disabilities. Learning disabilities can range from motor coordination to dyslexia. I was diagnosed with Learning Disabilities since I was about two years old. My speech was all messed up and even though I wanted to participate in class the teacher could not understand me. I couldn't walk in a straight line and I was a slower learner than everybody else in class. I literally would skim through the pages so I could keep up with the rest of the class when reading a book. I was seeing a speech pathologist since I was two all the way up through my high school graduation. I went to a "special" school for people with disabilities and was in occupational therapy for two years. I was a normal child who learned slower than most and therefore struggled through out of my school life.
In simple terms people with disabilities are students who are slower learners and having trouble keeping the grades in school. Most people who have learning disabilities have trouble with their speech, may have trouble reading or with their math. Some might be shy and stay in the back of the classroom. Some people with learning disabilities are picked on by others because they are different and possibly labeled.
Yes most disabilities are caused by neurological reasons and sometimes it is caused by what the parents do while the mom is pregnant like drugs or alcohol. It is never the person's fault for having a learning disability. If you are at school or you are taking your child to school and see another child having trouble in school it could be because that person has a learning disability. The best thing you can do is to offer to help them out.
Before I became a parent I was told that my children would have learning disabilities since I had them which was not true. I have two daughter and my oldest who is in pre-school is very smart and has no trouble in school. Learning disabilities is not contagious and is not a disease but for someone with disabilities it is something that they have to live with and do the best he can. You know what they say when life gives you lemons make lemonade.
