A Somber Day in Washington D.C.
The Tour Guide
Jason
Isabella
Mr. Buchanan
Sgt. Temmings
It was a gloomy, rainy Monday in November. In fact, it was Veteran's Day and a crowd was gathered around the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C. Jason, a photographer for the Washington Crier, and his co-worker Isabella, a reporter for the same newspaper both appeared baffled. Someone had been found murdered underneath the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, last night. In fact, it was one of the actual Sentinels, or guards, who was found dead, stabbed in the back.
"Who would do such a thing?" Isabella asked Jason, horrified. "I have no idea," he answered, "but we should try and find out." Jason and Isabella joined a group following a tour guide, in hopes of learning something that might lead them to the murderer. Isabella yawned. Jason asked her why she was so tired and she mumbled something about staying up late to watch a documentary on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. "I wish I could've watched it, but I was at the basketball game last night on assignment," Jason said. "Too bad, it was pretty interesting," replied Isabella. She continued, "I don't go out much since I just recently moved here and haven't made many friends." "No boyfriend?" asked Jason, a bit hopefully. "N..not anymore...I mean..not really...the last guy I dated turned out to be married," Isabella confessed. Jason assured her he was very much single and they both laughed nervously.
As they walked around Arlington National Cemetery, Jason and Isabella noticed a man dressed in uniform. As they approached him, they noticed he was a sergeant in the army and he appeared very nervous. They introduced themselves and he told them his name was Sgt. Temmings. They inquired as to what happened last night. Sgt. Temmings did not like reporters. He asked Jason to please hand his camera over and Jason would not. Sgt. Temmings was getting very upset and Mr. Buchanan, the head grounds keeper came over when he heard the ruckus.
"Is there a problem over here?" asked Mr. Buchanan, shovel in hand. Jason asked if he knew anything about the murder last night. Mr. Buchanan replied, "Of course I do, I run this place. Darn shame. Was a good man, that one. Mighty respectful, too." Jason asked if the murdered man was married and if he had any kids. Mr. Buchanan answered, "I believe he was married. No kids. But I think his marriage was a bit troubled. Rumors about another woman..." "That's enough, Buchanan," Sgt. Temmings interrupted.
