Every American should be entitled to a college education.
Why?
Because it's part of the American dream and the right to pursue one's happiness. What kind of country would we be if we didn't allow anyone his or her right to a higher education. It would be as if we denied them medical care and the right to live somewhere. Anyone with the thirst for knowledge should be allowed to continue with his or her education.
If we allowed college education for just a privileged few , we'd be sowing the seeds of revolution. There would be a tremendous amount of mistrust between the educated and the non educated. There would also be seething resentment as well. People who were denied a college education would rebel against those who had - i.e. the ones who would eventually acquire the higher salaried jobs and ultimately better lifestyles. America would be like France in 1792 or Russia in 1917. There would be an eventual uprising and possibly even riots. There could even be bloodshed. we would then wind up with a clash of classes and the wrong people in government. If those out there could think this could not happen, think again. No, denying an education would be highly destructive. It would destroy this country on all levels, recreating an even worse rebellion than 1776 or a more horrific civil war than the War Between The States.
I'm sure there are elitists (although the better term would be snobs) out there who feel that a university degree is wasted on those coming from the inner cities, reservations or rural areas. Yet these are the same locales that would benefit greatly from having their children educated. The areas would be improved by their own coming back with medical degrees and business backgrounds. There would be more teachers returning to help build schools or better existing ones. More MBAs would return and bring with them the promise of new businesses and therefore new jobs.Lives would be greatly improved simply by having a good percentage of college grads return to their economically blighted home towns.
Our forefathers would blanch and revolt if they heard about higher education being available to only a privileged few. It is more than being not fair. It is not simply the American way.
