Barack Obama's Campaign Ship Change' Is Torpedoed
(Can He Stop It From Sinking?)
Sooner or later a black American had to make a serious run for President of the United States. I mean a real serious run - not the ego trip that several others have taken. Barack Obama has done just that and done it well capturing the attention of a large audience, establishing himself as the probable Democratic nominee, and initiating a phenomenon referred to as Obamamania.
He is a word - artist giving speeches which are soothing, calming and convincing. He moves one to emotional highs with his positive approach to the problems we face today. He is JFK - like in his ability to captivate an audience, to spur them to action, and to convince them he is the right choice' for President.
He is in contention; in fact, he is leading in all respects: the popular vote, delegates, and state primaries won. He has given the anointed one, Hillary Clinton, a run for her money lots of money as he has out fundraised the compleat fundraising Clinton Machine'.
But just as likely is the reality that when a black person got into contention, race would be a factor no matter how hard one tried to disavow it. That time has now arrived in full force caused not by the candidate himself but by an outside person with no real political ties. Not the Ku Klux Klan as you might suspect. No, instead a black preacher of the gospel. Can you fathom that?
Barack Obama began his campaign in Illinois at the spot where Abe Lincoln had given a famous speech. He chose that location for a reason. He has campaigned as a uniter' constantly repeating the promise he would bring all Americans, regardless of race , creed or color, together in a common cause for the good of the country.
All was going well. He was on a roll winning state after state in the primaries surprising everyone with a win in Iowa and 26 other states while his erstwhile opponents were befuddled, bewildered and bewitched. Talk about Shock and Awe'! He couldn't be stopped, it seemed, no matter what unsavory campaign tactics were unleashed. He was a political Superman'.
Last month, Barack was, unfortunately, torpedoed by his twenty year preacher - and friend, no less Reverend Jeremiah Wright, a black activist preacher of hate and discontent at his eight thousand member Trinity United Church of Christ where he has pastored since 1972. His vitriolic preaching came to light when his sermons appeared on television and the internet,
