The Veteran's Day dilemma:
It was a cold, windy November Monday and Johnny was just waking up. Most Mondays he would have woken up with unwillingness and grumble, but this particular Monday he did not mind waking up; it was Veteran's Day. Since it was Veteran's Day he did not have school and they would be going to his grandpa's house to celebrate his service in the war along with some of his old war buddies. It was always exciting and fun because he would hear stories about the war from all of his grandpa's friends. They were getting pretty old and would constantly argue about what the real story was because their memories were going. This made the day all the more interesting.
Johnny's dad was a sergeant in the army and was currently stationed in the Middle East. Johnny liked the fact his dad was in the army, but didn't like how he was always gone. The only upside about his dad being gone is that he would get a present from him. Every time his dad was away on Veteran's Day he would send Johnny a present from where he was stationed. This is why Johnny was so excited. When he was finally awake he hopped out of bed and ran downstairs.
He came to a screeching halt in kitchen completely out of breath where his mom was waiting at the table with the package. He grabbed the package and tore into it only to see that his dad had outdone himself once again. Last year he got him a cork gun and the year before that he got this army hat that his dad had worn. This time he took out a wooden plaque with his dad's battalion's name carved into the front. It shined in the light and had his name engraved on the bottom. This was one of the best Veteran's Day gifts he has gotten and he was so excited he decided to take it to his grandpa's to show all the veterans.
After breakfast, Johnny and his mom went out to the grocery store to buy the usual appetizers. It is weird, all of Johnny's grandpa's friends are allergic to peanut butter except three and these three happen to be three out of the four who aren't wheel chair bound. So, every year Johnny and his mom bring peanut butter cookies and meatballs. These peanut butter cookies aren't just any though, they are coated with an extra layer of peanut butter on top. They are delicious, but extremely messy. It is always funny watching the three old veterans trying to eat them. They get peanut butter all over.
After the grocery store they went home and changed. They then left for grandpa's house which was about 20 minutes away. In the car
