When I am looking for a peaceful, relaxing vacation I will often choose a bed-and-breakfast (or B&B) instead of a traditional hotel. These cozy destinations are unique and warm, and are wonderful for romantic getaways. I've often dreamed about owning a small B&B in a picturesque location because of the community feeling that they invite. So many wonderful travel stories begin with pastries and good conversation at the B&B breakfast table. Arizona has many beautiful places to stay, and the Phoenix area has three that stand out to me.
Full Circle Ranch
40205 North 26th Street
Cave Creek, Arizona 85331

The Full Circle Ranch takes the Southwestern motif to the extreme. The rooms bear little resemblance to what you might expect at a B&B, but are still relaxing and peaceful. Its secluded desert location is very romantic. If you live in Arizona, this might be the perfect spot for that weekend getaway. It is far enough from the city to really take you away from the daily grind.
One unique feature are the stables available to the guests. For a small additional fee, you can bring along your horse. There are so many trails in the area that this would be a wonderful activity!
Maricopa Manor
15 West Pasadena Avenue
Phoenix, Arizona 85013

Maricopa Manor Bed & Breakfast is quiet and romantic. The Spanish architecture and native plants are amazing. It is very private, and breakfast is delivered to your room each morning. Many guests do interact, but it isn't necessary if you want time to yourself. I love B&Bs for weekends alone when I need a break from the hectic world. This one is perfect for a personal retreat - I love that time away for extra writing time. It certainly is a beautiful, peaceful place for inspiration!
Although, if you are interested in business travel the seven suites also come equipped with high speed internet. It is also only fifteen minutes from the airport. Maricopa Manor does a wonderful job at catering to the needs of all their customers.
La Paz in Desert Springs
6309 East Ludlow Drive
Scottsdale, AZ 85254

La Paz in Desert Springs is a warm, inviting place. I love the weekend breakfasts. They are local Southwest and Mexican favorites, which is a nice change from the typical Continental Breakfast food. This B&B is also very affordable, which is a nice bonus. There is a dog that lives here, so if you have pet allergies you might want to consider one of the other choices.
Next time you visit Phoenix, consider skipping the impersonal atmosphere of a large hotel. Check in somewhere where the staff will learn your name, and you can meet other travelers from around the world.
