Reflections: Making a difference

Why don't more people vote? why don't more people give to charity? The answer to these and many other questions that deal with giving is always the same....one person wont make a difference. Most people are so disillusioned with the world, that they can never fathom the idea that they can make a difference being only one person. Of course they can! The difference you make does not always have to be a big one. Sometimes, something small you do can make a huge difference to someone else.

When I am having a bad day I know that a smile from my wife will always cheer me up. When I go to work and see that a co-worker did a task that usually falls on my shoulders, it not only helps my attitude but it allows me to begin a work day with a happy heart. Most people just don't know how easy it is to make a difference in someones life. Ask someone how they are doing. Say hello to a stranger. Sometimes just a smile can chase the dark clouds away from another persons' heart. Remember, when you do something nice for someone else, it will also affect you. Making someone feel better will always make you feel better.

We live in a world that at times can be so cynical that we can't see a reason to try and make a difference when there are so many that don't care. You hear preachers, teachers, motivational speakers, and many others that reach a lot of people say, " if i can change the life of one person then i will be happy knowing that I made a difference." You're probably thinking, how can one person be happy knowing they made a difference to one as opposed to many.? The answer is simple. Someone is better off because of this preacher, teacher, speaker, or the many others that have reached them.

You may not ever make a difference to the entire world, but that one person that receives your smile and few kind words may walk away feeling better about themselves and their life. Not only will that person feel better the smile and kind words you showed to someone else will make you feel better. A smile works both ways. The difference you make in someones else's life can also produce a difference in your life.

Remember how good you felt when someone touched your life and do the same to others every chance you get.
