Poetry: Insomnia

-An Insomniac's Lullaby-

Lights shut off,
A movement into a dream.

Fall to the pillows,
And cover with fluff.

Thumpthumpthumpthumpthump.
A beating heart drowns out thought.

Dilated pupils stare into space,
Concentrating on the rhythm.

Thump Thump Thump.
Like finishing a big race.

Thump, thump.
A tired body cannot rest.

Hours pass by quickly,
Floating away effortlessly.

Thump.
The sky lightens.

Th ump.
The sun peaks over the horizon.

ump.
Birds sing their song.

The Sandman finally arrives.
