Poetry: Picnics

Spring is the harbinger
of summer time fun
There will be ball games and swimming
Picnics for everyone

Find a good table
Don't want to eat on the ground
Bring the big basket
And all gather round

Do we have the plates?
And the napkins we need?
Where is the fried chicken?
And potato salad, indeed.

Break out the dill pickles
The mayo and mustard
Fire up the grill for dogs
And lets snack on fruit & custard

More food than we need
But that's what it's about
Fat, happy and sassy
Full of everything, no doubt

We've worked hard all winter
We just want a good break
A little over eating
Won't hurt us for Pete's sake

What's even better
Is the clean up after.
No dishes to wash
Just fun and laughter.

Throw the dishes away
Pack the leftovers in bowls
Save them for tomorrow
As we eat them with hot rolls

Go home all recovered
From the weekly grind
I'm just going to rest here awhile
Take a nap, hope you don't mind.
