Slowly I wake and I open my eyes,
Adjust from the darkness to sharp morning light.
Remnants of dreams fade away with each breath,
Disappearing before I can take my first step.
Sounds from outside navigate to my ears,
Stumbling forward - a vision appears.
I stop in my tracks unable to move,
Overwhelmed by the vision shining so true.
The curve of her lips, the light in her eyes,
The smell of her skin all take over my mind.
Momentarily paralysed unable to think,
Reminded of feelings I thought were extinct.
A smile washes over that I can't wipe away,
And inside I can feel that it's pride unashamed.
