Who thought that girls couldnt race cars too? There are a few select women who are bucking the system, and taking their turn around the track. Well it turns out, there are two female drivers in Nascar who compete regularly in the Nascar Craftsman Truck Circuit. However, there currently are not any females in the running for the Nascar Nextel Cup or the Busch Series, but that is most likely coming in the near future. Nascar is looking for their own Danica Patrick, she is out there somewhere, waiting like a diamond in the rough to be discovered.
The ladies of The Craftsman Truck Series are regular racers. Racing in the #8 Easy Care Dodge is Deborah Renshaw. Deborah has had some hard luck with racing, her best finished was 12th at Dover. Also having some hard luck, is Kelly Sutton in the #02 Team Copaxone Chevy. Kelly's best finish was 15th at Lowes Motor Speedway.
Women in Nascar, allthought not heard of often are out there. Starting off in Nascar in June of 1949, Sara Christian was the first lady out on the track. On June 10, 1949, at the Daytona Beach Road Course, Sara along with two other females, one of them being her sister, were in competition at one time. Sara went on to be the first female to finish in the top ten at Langhorn Speedway, which was the last race to ever feature three women on the track at once. Sara broke the mole, leading the way to the first ladies of Nascar.
Shawna Robinson became the female of Nascar with the highest success ever. Shawna came out with a bang in 1988, she took third place at her first ever Nascar race. Shawna went on that year to win at the New Asheville Speedway. She won top ten at twenty one out of thirty races. In 1988 and 1989, Shawna won the Most Popular Driver Award. Shauna set a track record, and also become the first female driver to qualify for a pole position while qualifying at Michigan International Speedway. As you can tell, Shawna was one female who strived for Victory Lane.
Nascar isnt just a mans field anymore. Ladies are setting the trend, and not just being fans anymore. Theyre taking their talent to the track and proving, that ladies can be fast too. Women in Nascar is an up and coming, in the future, you will see more and more ladies showing their talents, and competing for a victory lap. Women in Nascar are bound for success.
