They wait patiently by the roadside
not the safest place to be.
I use to chase them all away
but now just wait to see.
Their little smiles and giggles
when the sprinklers finally pop.
And the steaming heat of day
is met with the water from their top.
They run in every direction
getting as soaked as they can be.
Eating in the sun and spray
all the while filled with glee.
They have no idea at all
that the timer is never set.
Each day, I turn the sprinklers on
for the joy that we all get.
