Romantically Bitten
A romantic evening in the dark
Blanket on a hill
Bucket of ice with wine inside
Glasses already chilled
A soft caress upon my cheek
A nibble down my neck
His tickling toes intertwine
My hair dangles on his chest
An itchy arm and heating back
I dare not say a word
Perhaps it was just one or two
A hill would be absurd
Then he jumps up
I scream and shout
Red bumps begin to grow
The wine now spilled
The blanket tossed
Ants covering the scene
In a flash we're at the car
Wondering what to do
The moon so full
Pleaded our case
Stars twinkled bright and clear
The moment new
He picks a rose
Blooming on a bush nearby
I hold his body close to mine
Scratching ant bites on the sly

Poetry: Ant hills
by Gary Maclean
A dozen little mounds
A hundred little trails
A thousand little workers
All bustling on the hills
Hills as big as a wagon wheel
Laid across the landscape
Like castles made of sand
Each a fortress built by perseverance
And teamwork
Gateways to an unseen
The human race is a lot like ants,
in a way we can not truly understand.
Our homes are our own personal mounds of dirt.
They
A tiny little mound
No more than a half inch wide
I can't help but wonder
How many ants are living inside
I know they're in
Ant hills and sugar trails
Feisty puppies, wagging tails
Lemonade sold at a stand
Castles built in the sand
Popsicles turning
