Mistakenly Identified
I was there when he said I do
I gave birth to his son
I became wife and mother
Until all was said and done
I became the daughter in law
Having been the daughter for years
I became the boss's wife
Through a lot of sweat and tears
I did the laundry and cleaned the house
I cooked and worked in the yard

The girl would flee in fear
The woman dared to challenge this
As she quieted her soul

Buried beneath her role
She would not mistake again
The life given to her grow
She would reach daily deep within
Letting her family know
The treasure of who she really is
The woman behind the scenes
Mistaken no more, revealed to all
The true woman who always cleans

Who are you?
In constant danger, where can I turn? I try to forget, when will I learn?
Who can I trust, who can I tell? These
That is not the one I am

I don't know if that was me then
Could you spot me in a crowd?
I don't think I was
