Adobe Photoshop tips and tricks for beginners

by Peloria G. Mortimer

When I first used Photoshop it was a toy to me at the time. I did not know the shortcuts of it
but I know that this is what I want to do forever. Now I know Photoshop can be huge when it
comes to a beginner graphic designer. This is just a list of my shortcuts on the keyboard that I have found in the last three months. At the end of the essay, I will tell you how to whiten teeth.

The web sites are numbered like this .1 and the shortcuts look like this 1. So you add them
together and you get this 1.1 and I did that way because it was easy to use the web sites that way.

Look that the resource page please because you will need it. First shortcut is:

1.4 Ctrl + Alt + Shift + N. (New Layer No Dialog) This command skips the dialog box and
just places a new layer on top of the active layer. Hmm I like this one.

2.4 Ctrl + 0. (Fit on Screen) this is a quick-and-dirty command to get the entire photo in front
of your eyes. That is Ctrl + zero, not the letter "O".

3.4 Shift + [. (Decrease Brush Softness) Decrease the softness of the brush by 25%.

4.4 Shift + ]. (Increase Brush Softness) Increase the softness of the brush by 25%.

5.1 Scale font size. Select the text that you want to scale the font size, press Cmd + Shift + > or < to increase / decrease font size.

6.1 Drag selection. With the Marquee tool, drag on the document (do not release the mouse yet),
now hold down Spacebar, it will let you drag the undefined selection.

7.1 Navigate the document left or right. Hold down the Cmd key and scroll up or down allows
you to navigate the document left or right. For example, hold down Cmd + scroll up will
navigate to right.

8.1 Zoom with the scroll wheel. You can zoom in / out by Cmd + Opt + scroll up or down.

9.1 Set specific blending modeOpt + Shift + C, N, M, S, D allows to set layer to specific
blending mode. For examples: Normal = Opt + Shift + N Screen = Opt + Shift + S Multiply =

Opt + Shift + M Color = Opt + Shift + C

10.1 Change workspace background By default Photoshop use grey for the workspace
background color. You can change that by: 1. select your favorite color 2. choose the Paint
Bucket tool 3. Hold down Shift + click on the working area (outside the document area)

11.1 Load layer transparent. Cmd + click on the layer thumbnail will load its transparency.

12.1 If you are adding a "Drop Shadow" layer effect, and you have the Layer Style dialog open
to the Drop Shadow settings, you can move the shadow around by clicking and dragging in the
image. This also works with the "Inner Shadow"
