Throughout my day
Are challenges,
Problems to resolve.
Coming home, there's a squabble,
Homework, housework
To dissolve.
In the quiet of the evening
In front of the TV
I gather all my laundry
And restore my sanity
This simple act of ironing
Cheaper than the therapy
Refocuses my thinking
Restoring clarity.
The fabric has no issues,
It yields beneath the steam.
Not wiggling or squirming,
Gives smoothly straightened seams.
As I dissolve the wrinkles
And make the collars crisp
Carefully smooth the smocking
On the lovely little dress,
I find that I am smiling
Thinking of the garments day
A soccer game, school picture
A handsome evening play.
Ironing causes kisses
On my sleeping children's face,
Some kisses for my lover,
And thanks for all this grace.

I hardly iron
a thing anymore,
the laundry doesn't need it,
so that's one less chore.
But I can remember
a few years back,
washing
Throughout my day
Are challenges,
Problems to resolve.
Coming home, there's a squabble,
