Clouds were rolling in and it surely looked like rain. Blasted weather, thought Alabaster Caine. The Fall Festival was starting in a few days at the Hallowland Estate, an eerie old mansion owned by Alabaster. Alabaster loved Halloween, as did all his family before him. Just after shutting the door, it poured. His butler, Reginald Wilson, had heard him pull in the drive. When Alabaster walked in, Reginald promptly said Tea, sir? Thank you Reginald. Alabaster took his tea and went into his study. He sat down at his desk he'd flown in from Italy a year ago. He ran his hand across the smooth marble top. He threw the mail down on the desk. When he did, a yellow envelope flew out onto the floor. He picked it up. He got his gold letter opener and opened the letter. The opener was a gift from his parents when he graduated college. It had a marble handle, almost an exact match to his desk. The letter was from his former girlfriend Sheila May Brown. A strikingly beautiful woman, with red hair and green eyes. He used to call her "Doll Face" because she reminded him of a porcelain doll. She missed seeing Alabaster. He thought, yeah, she probably missed my money. She was to arrive in town tomorrow and was hoping to stay at Hallowland. Please call if it's okay. Here's my number: 243-2836. He called and left a message. Yes, you can stay here at the house. He picked up the newspaper. His black Labrador Stormy came charging in and plopped his front paws on the paper. Alabaster petted him and told him to run along. Off he ran, nearly knocking Reginald down. An article caught his eye. It read Religious group from Maine protesting Fall Festival. The group Avengers of Heaven have decided to protest the Fall Festival, calling it a devil worshiping ritual. The group claims it is led by a high priest of Satan named Alabaster Caine. Avengers of Heaven is led by a woman named Angelica Grace Brown. He picked up the phone and dialed the paper's editor. This is Alabaster Caine, how can you print such filth? Calm down Mr. Caine. Can I send a reporter over to get your statement? Yes. I'll send a reporter over straightaway. There was knock at the door. He opened the door. Standing there was a beautiful woman whom he didn't know. Are you the reporter? Yes, my name is Erica Rotelli. Come into my study and we can talk. What a lovely home. I love these old estates, they hold so much history,
